BRUSSELS -- The EU strongly condemned the attack against the Federal Parliament in the Somali capital Mogadishu earlier Saturday.
"We stress the importance of preserving and protecting this key institution. We deplore the loss of life and extend our condolences to the families of the deceased," Michael Mann, spokesman for EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, said in a statement.
"We commend the swift response of the security forces of the Federal Government of Somalia and AMISOM in responding to this vicious act," he said.
"We reaffirm the EU's unwavering support to the people, Parliament and Government of Somalia in their effort to reconstruct their country," added the statement.
