Somali lawmaker Omar Mahmoud Mohamed (Finish) has been wounded in today’s attack on Somali parliament, a colleague lawmaker Abdisamad Moalim Mahmoud confirmed.
In an interview with local media, the lawmaker said that his colleague was slightly wounded in the attack and was being treated at the AMISOM hospital south west of the capital Mogadishu.
“I witnessed several police officers fall on the ground, but I cannot exactly tell how many of them were killed or wounded in the attack” he said.
“We heard very huge explosions outside the parliament building as we were about to start our discussion and heavy gun fire followed immediately” the lawmaker said in an interview with local Risaala radio.
He accused the government of failing to contain the country’s security.
“It is unacceptable that Somali parliament comes under attack in daylight time” said the lawmaker who previously served as the internal security minister.
