Mogadishu (HOL) – Lower House speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nor Madobe returned to Somalia on Tuesday after a 15-day official trip to several European countries to gain parliamentary technical knowledge.
The Speaker travelled to Luxembourg, Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands, and Turkey.
Parliamentarians and cabinet members welcomed the Speaker at Mogadishu's Adan Adde airport.
During his stay in the Netherlands, Sheikh Adan Madobe met with the President of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Piotr Hofmański, in The Hague, Netherlands.
The President of the ICC Court welcomed the Speaker to the headquarters of the International Criminal Court and briefed him about how it works and the different parts of the Court.
Madobe also met with the President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Mrs. Joan E. Donoghue. The Speaker was briefed on the Somali-Kenya maritime case in which Somalia won against Kenya last year.
Sheikh Adan Madobe also met with his Austrian counterpart, Mr. Wolfgang Sobotka, in Vienna, where his delegation learned skills from the Austrian parliament that could be applied in Somalia.
Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nor Madobe visited Belgium's Parliament House, where he was welcomed by his counterpart Ms. Eliane Tillieux, the first-ever female Speaker of the House of Representatives in Belgium.
They discussed strengthening the friendship between the two Parliaments.
In Luxembourg, the Speaker was welcomed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Luxembourg Parliament, Mr. Fernand Etgen, and discussed strengthening relations between the houses of the parliament.
