Al-Shabaab kills fisherman in Lower Shabelle attack

Mogadishu (HOL) - At least one has been killed and two others wounded in Lower Shabelle region after Al-Shabaab militants opened fire on fishermen.

Former Marka district Commissioner, Mohamed Osman Yarisow confirming the incident to the media said the fishermen were travelling by boat when the militants attacked them.

According to the commissioner, the incident took place between Jilib-Marka and Gandarshe towns.

The commissioner said the boat reportedly neared to Al-Shabaab base on shore which forced the militants to attack the boat.

“The boat had five people on board, they were going for fishing, Al-Shabaab militants have opened fire on the boat leading the death of a person,” he said.

The attacks barely a day after Somali military stepped their operations against Al-Shabaab militants in Lower Shabelle region.

On Monday, Somali National Army has four villages in Lower Shabelle.

In a statement, Somali Information Ministry said Somali forces will liberate areas held by al-Shabab terrorists.
