According to the complaint, Ali had been working as a volunteer at the Brian Coyle Center on 15th Ave. S. when he got into an argument with a group of Somali males.

After Ali's shift ended, as he was leaving, Osman struck him in the head with the gun then shot him in the torso, police say. Osman fled the scene and was brought in as a suspect a few days later.

The Somali community assisted with the police investigation by providing eyewitness accounts.
