Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali military has managed to repulse al-Shabaab fighters following an attack on Bula-Marer town in Lower Shabelle region.

Heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters on Wednesday night stormed the town from different directions prompting hours-long clashes with Somali army and al-Shabaab.

Somali forces reportedly got reinforcement from the troops operating under the framework of African Union Mission in Somalia.

According to locals in the town, the sides have been engaging in fierce battle long hours before Al-Shabaab militants were pushed back.

The allied forces have this morning conducted security operations in and out of the town.

According to security officials, no arrest was made during the operation.

Somali military did not comment on the Al-Shabaab attack and its casualties.
