Kismayo (HOL) - Al-Shabaab officials in Middle Jubba have announced the defection of a Jubaland official to the militant insurgency group.
The official, who has been identified as Hassan Kheyre Hussein, is believed to be part of the Jubaland military contingent that received training outside Somalia.
Al-Shabaab militants have displayed high-profile defections as part of their propaganda campaign in the past.
However, the insurgent group has been dealt several heavy blows by the Somali government’s push to attract Al-Shabaab defectors. So far, the amnesty program has lured regional commanders, a powerful warlord and the head of intelligence to the government side.
