Mogadishu (HOL) - Newly elected Lower House Speaker, Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman has officially assumed office on Thursday following handing over ceremony held in Mogadishu.During his speech at the event, Abdirahman pledged to complete pending tasks before the House in collaboration with the outgoing speaker.
Abdirahman was elected to lead the House early this week after the former Speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawari resigned the following fall out with the executive arm of the government.
In the ceremony held in Villa Somalia, Abdirahman who once served as Somalia's ambassador to Turkey took the office from his predecessor Jawari.
He lauded the progress gained during the era of Jawari who had been leading the House for six years.
For his part, Jawari who spoke at the handing over ceremony extended his readiness to cooperate and work with the speaker.
Abdirahman who was heading the Ministry for Defense since early 2017 stood down last week to vie for the speaker.
While addressing the lawmakers last week, pledged to improve the relations between the Lower House and government in accordance with the Constitution.
Since March, when the impeachment motion against Jawari which allegedly engineered the cabinet was tabled, a significant number of lawmakers have been accusing the government led Prime Minister, Khaire of interfering the business.
