Suspected Al-Shabaab Militants Shell Parts of Somalia’s Capital

Suspected Islamist militants fired mortars on densely populated areas of Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, causing at least five explosions, police officer Ahmed Shiino said by phone.

There were no immediate reports of casualties from Tuesday’s blasts, Shinno said. Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-linked group, has been fighting in Somalia since 2006 to impose a its version of Islamic law.
