At least four Somali civilians were killed after a bomb detonated near an African Union troop convoy in the southern port of Marka, police and a witness said.
Omar Nur, a local police officer, counted the bodies of four civilians in the aftermath, he said by phone from the scene. Nur Osman, who witnessed the blast, said an explosives device planted on the ground targeted the peacekeepers’ vehicles in the center of the town.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosion. Islamist militant group al-Shabaab wages regular attacks on peacekeepers, including those based in the town, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) southwest of the capital, Mogadishu.
