At least 15 people were killed and dozens injured in a bloody armed conflict in Beled Hawo for the past several weeks between the inhabitants of the Gedo region.A delegation led by the Federal Minister of Defence, Mohamed Sheik Hassan Hamud, who is presently visiting the region to ease the tension, already had several meetings with the Government officials and the Elders to find out the root cause of the conflict, although some sources indicate that the “Battle for control” could be part of the problem.
The Minister is also expected to visit Beled Hawo where is scheduled to meet with the local Authority, the Elders, the Army officials to calm the situation.
On the other hand reports said that fighters loyal to the Interim Jubba Administration have attacked the town several times in a bid to take control of the area.
Moderate Islamists who are controlling large parts of the region accused the Prime Minister’s office of instigating violence in the region.
However, so far, there is no reaction from the Office of the Prime Minister on the claim.
