Somali President meets Japanese King

The president of the federal republic of Somalia Hassan Sheik Mahmoud who is on an official tour to Japan has today met with the king Akihito of Japan as part of his efforts to attract a greater Japanese attention to Somalia.

A Somali presidential press statement of which HOL obtained a copy on Thursday said that king Akihito of Japan told the visiting Somali leader that Japan was fully worried about the troubled situation in Somalia.

King Akihito pledged that Japan will do its utmost to help Somalia regain its lost stability and become a strong and peaceful country.

President Hassan Sheik Mahmoud thanked the Japanese King for the support that his government provides with Somalia and as well as the high profile welcome received since his arrival in Tokyo this week.

The statement noted that on behalf of the Nation, president Hassan sent condolence to Japan for the loss of their beloved people who were killed by the fukushima cyclone that his Japan nearly three years ago.

Japan, who recently sent its ambassador to Somalia, is one of the major donor nations who are currently involved in the world campaign to assist Somalia get back on its feet again after more than two decades of wars and lawlessness.
