TWO Somalia nationals have been fined Sh70,000 each or serve one year in jail for being in the country illegally. Ishiin Ibrahim and Naima Ahmed yesterday pleaded guilty to the charges before Mombasa senior principal magistrate Richard Odenyo.

They admitted that they were found on April 17 at Buxton in Mombasa district without documents validating their stay. The court heard that officers from Makupa police station had mounted a roadblock at the Buxton area for the purpose of flushing out illegal immigrants from the country.

The duo were arrested after the police intercepted a tuk-tuk they were travelling in. When interrogated by the police, the two identified themselves as Somalia citizens. They were escorted to Makupa police station and then taken to court.
