DJIBOUTI, (Xinhua) -- Preparations for the Africa Internet Summit to be held in Djibouti between May 25 to June 6 are underway, a source from the country’s communication ministry said on Tuesday.

With about a month before the summit, Djibouti’s communications ministry has continued to hold preparatory sessions with different commissions charged with organizing the event.

Communication ministry’s secretary general Mohamed Ibrahim Ahmed said the holding of the continental event in Djibouti will cement the country’s position as a regional hub in telecommunication matters.

Director general of Djibouti Telecom Mohamed Assoweh Bouh said the summit will help to highlight opportunities in the area of new information and communication technologies (ICT).

“We must rise up and demonstrate that Africa is capable. Even though we missed out on the industrial revolution, we must be key players in the ICT revolution,” he said.

Organized annually by African countries in partnership with the African Network of Information Center (AFRINIC) and African Network Operators (AFNOG), the African Internet Summit combines a series of technical training sessions, conferences and networking in the Internet industry.

This year’s summit to be held under the theme “Beyond connection : Interconnection for African Development,” will be a platform where key development challenges facing Africa will be examined with a view of finding appropriate solutions.
