Gunmen have shot dead a Kenyan police officer in the border town of Mandera.
Assailants fled the scene before the police surrounded the area said North- Eastern provincial police chief Charlton Mureithi.
“We cannot give further details , police investigations are underway” he added.
Witnesses say security forces arrested several people in connection with the attack.
Mandera has been the spotlight of hit and run attacks against Kenyan security forces since Kenya sent it’s troops to Somalia to fight islamist militants in october 2011.
