Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere has said last week's attacks on a police post in Wajir by suspected al shaabab militia that left 7 people dead should have been avoided.With investigations ongoing, police spokesman Eric Kiraithe says one police officer reported to be missing has been found.
The Kenya Defence Forces are currently searching the whereabouts of those who were abducted during the incident.
Following the attack tension has increased in the volatile region.
Kiraithe said a policeman thought to have been among those abducted has been found and security in the area heightened.
Department of Defence Communication officer Cyrus Oguna said they are the whereabouts of those abducted are still unknown but investigations are in high gear.
Speaking during the Kenya police cross country championships, the Commissioner said proper security measures have been put in place across the country's borders to prevent similar attacks.
The Kenya Defence Forces maintains that the operation to flush out al shaabab militia is still on course.
Colonel Oguna said plans to hit the militia strongholds are in progress adding that there is an estimated 500 Kenyans fighting for the militia.
The African Union held a meeting in Addis Ababa last week where a concept paper on the likelihood of increasing AMISOM forces was drafted and is now awaiting the UN Security Council approval.
The AMISOM forces contract in Somalia has been extended until next year.
