The grim reality is that these attacks are not going to end any time soon as long as Al-Shabaab remains a viable force of shadowy criminals trained in urban warfare.
The death of five Kenyans from a grenade attack in a Garissa nightspot on Saturday is a timely reminder that whatever our forces’ success in southern Somalia, the militants are gradually bringing the war to our doorstep.
But more terrifying is that we are paying the price of having tolerated illegal foreigners in our cities and border towns for too long, or corruptly facilitating their settlement here as sleepers.
In the meantime, we can only reiterate what we have been saying all along.
Security agents cannot be everywhere all the time, so it is upon ordinary Kenyans to maintain vigilance and report suspicious characters amongst themselves.
