Somali Foreign Minister Mohamed Mohamoud Hajji Ibrahim has hailed Iran's humanitarian aid for the famine-ravaged people of Somalia, Press TV reports.

"We thank the government of Iran for the continuous support they always offer to their brothers in the Horn of Africa in terms of the humanitarian crisis," Ibrahim told Press TV.

"We welcome the shipment they have recently done and we appreciate and thank the people and the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran," he added.

Iran shipped another 5000 tons of humanitarian aid to the Mogadishu seaport on Sunday.

Senior Somali government officials welcomed the Iran's Red Crescent team at the port, and the shipment was officially received by the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia.

Iran's Red Crescent Society official Mohammad Rezaei said Iranians fully support Somalia's people.

"Iranians greatly contributed to the relief efforts in Somalia following a call by the Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei] for humanitarian aid to the people of this drought-stricken country," Rezaei said.

Millions of people are in dire need of emergency aid due to the prolonged drought in the Horn of Africa, hit by the worst drought in 60 years.
