Yardim Eli Aid Organization launched a project called "brothers
family" to meet needs of Somali families who have been passing through
tough days.
Mehmet Citil, the aid organization's coordinator in Somalia, told AA
correspondent that the project was earlier implemented in Palestine,
Pakistan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Syria and Lebanon.
Within the scope of the project, volunteer families from Turkey were
assisting needy Somali families by granting 100 Turkish lira monthly to
them, he said and added this amount met monthly food needs of one Somali
family.
Citil said Turkish families showed a great interest in this project.
Somalia is facing with one of the worst droughts in the past 60 years.
The epicenter of the drought lies on the three-way border shared by
Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia, a nomadic region where families heavily
depend on the health of their livestock. Uganda and Djibouti have also
been hit by the disaster. Tens of thousands of people have so far been
displaced due to the humanitarian situation in the region.
