Dar es Salaam. Zanzibar National soccer team, Zanzibar Heroes today play
a crucial match against Somalia in Group B of the ongoing Senior East
and Central Africa Challenge Cup.The match has been scheduled to start
from 2pm, and the team needs to win in order to revive its hope of
qualifying in the quarter final of the tournament.Currently, Zanzibar have only one point following a goalless draw against Burundi in their second encounter. The team lost 2-1 against Uganda Cranes in the opening match.Only Uganda has qualified in the last eight stage of the tournament from Group B after collecting six points. Uganda will face Burundi in the second match scheduled to start at 4pm.
Zanzibar Heroes need to score many goals in order to get a chance in the last stage depending on the results of the Burundi-Uganda match.If Uganda and Burundi draw or if the former lose, Zanzibar will have to wait for the best losers’ chance to advance. Only two best losers will qualify for the last eight.
Zanzibar captain, Nadir “Cannavaro” Haroub said they are in top morale to stop Burundians despite the fact that they lost in the first encounter.Haroub said the mistakes that they made in the first encounter would not be repeated. “We know our mistakes, we will not repeat them,” said Cannavaro.
He said they face a tough opposition from Uganda and Burundi, which are among strong sides in the tournament.
Cannavaro said they know Somalia play a defensive game, but they would be all out to win respect for Tanzania. He called on fans to turn up at the National Stadium in big numbers.“Our morale is high, we need fan’s support to win, we promise to fight hard and revive Tanzanians hopes of qualifying for the quarters,” he said.
