More desperate people from Somalia flee their homeland to neighboring Kenya as the African nation struggles with the most catastrophic famine in decades.

In Kenya, “they've put their homes together using bags of rubbish, pieces of plastic, whatever they can find," a Press TV correspondent reported from the border between Somalia and Kenya on Sunday.

"They have absolutely nothing with them, they've come empty-handed. And the conditions they're living in now are really inhumane," he further explained.

Thousands of people have left Somalia for Kenya to escape the widespread drought and deteriorating humanitarian situation in their country.

Ahmed, a 16-year-old Somali who lives with his family in one of the makeshift homes, has insisted that the international community must help the famine-stricken people of Somalia.

"We need food and medicine. We need assistance for the children with us. Many of our children are sick. We have nothing to cook. Many people have died on the journey to get here," Ahmed said.

The international community has promised aid for Somalia and a substantial amount has already been sent.

However, the United Nations says far more help is needed for the country, adding that 3.2 million Somalis are in need of immediate lifesaving assistance.
