The African Union (AU) has urged the continent to take part in the donor's conference in Ethiopia later in August, to address the Somalian food crisis.
AU commission chairperson Jean Ping said over 12 million people in the Horn of African have been affected.
“We are going to set up a mechanism for collecting funds…,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Gift of the Givers flew 18 tonnes of aid into Mogadishu on Wednesday.
But the organisation’s Imtiaz Sooliman said the situation remains dire.
He said the group is in talks with South African Airways and other private companies to assist with relief efforts. They are hoping to transport more aid to the east African country by the weekend.
