MOGADISHU (HOL) - Governor of the Islamic administration of Hiiraan Sheik Abdirahman Ma’ow flew today to Mogadishu. The current administration of the region is allied with the Transitional Federal Government led by President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed. The region is located on the strategic road that links the southern regions of the country to the northern regions.

The reason for the unannounced visit of the governor is not known although there are unconfirmed reports that the Governor was summoned to Mogadishu by senior officers of the TFG to discuss with him the situation in the region.

The visit of the Governor to Mogadishu comes at a time when the former deputy Governor of the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) administration that ruled the region for six months in 2006 Sheik Hasan Sheik Mohamed has said that the region’s administration has withdrawn its support from the TFG and that the region is “open to all Muslims”.

“I have not been appointed to a position by the government, I am not a Minister or a Member of Parliament, therefore I can tell you that the region is not under the control of the TFG” said the former deputy Governor Sheik Hasan Sheik Mohamud while speaking to HornAfrik Radio in Mogadishu.

Moreover, a senior clerk of the region’s court Sheik Mohamed Mohamud Warsame has resigned from his post in the court this morning without explaining why he resigned except to say that he will concentrate his efforts on the propagation of Islamic teachings.
