KISMAYO (HOL) - The Islamic administration that controls the strategic port town of Kismayo in southern Somalia has ordered businesses to close at prayer times.The administration said that it is necessary to implement Islamic teachings in the city the foremost of which is the observation of prayer times. They emphasized that businesses will not be allowed to operate during prayer times and those who are caught disregarding the order will be fined 300,000 SSH in addition to jail time.
There are people in the city who have been jailed for being late to prayers and the city’s administration has decreed that those who are late for prayers to be jailed for an hour as well as additional punishment.
During prayers time one can see soldiers whose job is to tell people to go to prayers and close businesses.
This is not the first time the administration decrees that people observe prayer times and close businesses. Earlier in the year similar decree was passed and implemented in the city.
