Somali to build cultural museum

Jijjiga, January 23 (WIC) – The Somali State Information, Culture and Tourism Bureau said construction of a cultural museum that would help preserve the cultural heritages and values of the state would soon be launched.

Bureau Culture Department Head, Daniel Sahile told WIC that collection of cultural heritages of the state was launched was launched last year.   

Food and household utensils, jewelries, farming tools, as well as musical instruments, among others, have so far been collected from Liben and Jijjiga zones.  

He said the bureau has given due attention for the collection of cultural heritages from other zones of the state, and added that a study is underway to amass the spiritual values and folklores in the state.   

In addition to promoting the identity of the Somali people, collection of the cultural heritages would contribute towards the development of tourism and transferring information down to the next generation, he indicated.    

The construction of a cultural museum would be lunched soon with one million birr budget, he said.
