The sentencing of John Zechmann, who was involved in the August 2007 death of a Somali man, has been postponed until February.

Zechmann, 22, of 3026 E. 1-R Road was scheduled to be sentenced in Hall County District Court on Thursday, but the hearing has been postponed to 2 p.m. Feb. 4.

He pleaded guilty to felony manslaughter and second-degree assault in December 2008. He had been charged with first-degree murder and using a gun to commit a felony for the death of Faud Osman.

Osman, 26, was found dead along a county road on Aug. 12, 2007. He had gone into the country to drink alcohol with Zechmann, Amanda Weddle and Jennifer Ehlers after meeting the women in Grand Island.

Hall County Attorney Mark Young said previously that a dispute erupted and Zechmann struck Osman with a beer bottle and shot him.

Zechmann entered his plea as part of an agreement. He faces up to 20 years in prison for manslaughter and up to five years for the assault.

Ehlers, 20, pleaded no contest in June 2008 to being an accessory to a felony. She was sentenced to 36 to 40 months in prison. That time will be served after her sentence of seven to 10 years for an unrelated burglary is completed.

Weddle, 20, of Grand Island, was charged with aiding and abetting first-degree murder. Her case was dismissed in December 2008.
