Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - Somalia’s newly elected President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed has returned to Djibouti after participating in the AU summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.The President travelled to Djibouti on same plane with Djibouti President Ismail Omar Gele. They were welcomed at the airport by senior members of Djibouti government. The President went to Kempiniski hotel in the city of Djibouti where he currently resides.
It is expected that the President will start consultations on the election of a Prime Minister. Reliable sources tell HOL that the president plans to speed up the election of the Prime Minister who will form a unity cabinet.
After the election of a Prime Minister and the formation of a cabinet, the government is expected to move to Mogadishu where it will establish its headquarters. Recently, the city of Baidao which has served as the temporary capital of the former government was taken by Al-Shabab forces who are opposed to the new government.
The new President, the youngest ever elected President in Somalia, and his government face daunting challenges including armed resistance from Al-Shabab forces which control large parts of southern Somalia and who have declared their opposition to the government formed in Djibouti.
