NATO forces step in to rescue hijacked Turkish ship

ANKARA, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- NATO forces stepped in to rescue crew of hijacked Turkish ship offshore of Somalia, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported Thursday.

"Yasa Neslihan", a Turkish ship of Marshal Island registry, washijacked by pirates offshore of Somalia on Wednesday noon, Turkish Maritime Undersecretariat officials were quoted as saying.

There were 20 Turkish crew members on board of the ship which was carrying iron ore from Canada to China.

Under the request of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NATO forces join the rescue operation of the crew on the hijacked cargo ship.

Turkish officials are trying to work out a solid plan to rescue hostages alive as the hijacked ship is still navigating offshore of Somalia.
