Mr. Dahir Mohamud Guled who is a member of both the UIC and the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS) said that as a result of mediation talks that have been taking place lately in Yemen the two sides came to a common understanding about several contentious issues and that a high level Mediation Committee consisting of senior members of the UIC succeeded in bringing the two sides together.
Mr. Guled said that the two sides resolved their dispute about the Djibouti Conference. Among the issues the two sided disagreed is the deployment of UN peacekeeping troops to Somalia. On this, Mr. Guled said, the two sides agreed that the UN peacekeeping force come from Islamic countries.
Mr. Guled added that there were other issues from the Djibouti Conference on which both sides agree but cautioned that for the agreement to last it will be necessary to follow up on the implementation of the agreement, tell the truth about the agreement and have patience and perseverance.
It is reported that the delegates from the two sides have returned to Asmara and Djibouti which are the capital cities of Eritrea and Djibouti respectively.
The ARS is an umbrella group that consists of members from the UIC, members from the Somalia Parliament that have named themselves the “the free Parliament”, members from the civil society, and members of the Somali diasporas.
