Speaking to reporters in Addis Ababa where he is on a three day visit, the prime minister of Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG) Mr. Nur Hasan Hussein (Nur Adde) requested an immediate financial assistance from the international community and the UN for the deployment of peacekeeping forces to Somalia.

“The UN and the international community must provide financial assistance for the immediate deployment of peacekeeping forces to Somalia,” said the prime minister.

The prime minister added that the international peacekeeping forces to be deployed in Somalia will replace Ethiopian troops and that this was part of the Djibouti peace accord between the TFG of Somalia and the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS).

The prime minister warned that the situation in Somalia would worsen if the arrival of international peacekeeping force is delayed. He stressed strongly the need for immediate deployment an international peacekeeping force.

Among the articles in the Djibouti peace accord between the TFG and the ARS is the deployment of international peacekeeping force to Somalia within 120 days to replace Ethiopian troops in Somalia.

The security in Somalia, particularly in Mogadishu is worsening and the killing of innocent civilians is daily occurrences. The latest such killing involved the killing of the head of UNDP office in Somalia late Osman Ali Ahmed. There are also frequent confrontations between Ethiopian and TFG troops on one side and ARS forces on the other side as well as assassinations aimed at senior TFG members.
