Somali immigrant disappears in Tisza river

Budapest, January 6 (MTI) - An illegal Somali immigrant, who entered Hungary from Ukraine with two companions on Sunday, disappeared in the Tisza river not far from the border, police told MTI.

The Somali immigrants reached the border with the help of human smugglers. When they were left alone already on Hungarian territory, one of them tried to cross the Tisza river near Tiszakerecseny.

After a few metres, however, the thin ice gave way under him and the man was drifted away in the icy current, police officer Judit Jaszai said.

His two companions asked help from a local residents who alerted the border police. Special rescue units launched an intensive search for the missing man.
