A man police allege was the shooter who was caught on videotape in the murder of 18-year-old Abdikarim Ahmed Abdikarim and the wounding of five others was arrested today.

Owen Anthony Smith, 25, is scheduled to appear in court Saturday for a bail hearing after being charged with one count of first degree murder and five counts of attempted murder.

Detective Sgt. Brian Borg of the homicide squad said Smith was arrested without incident at a Keele St. apartment around noon Friday.

Also taken into custody was a 23-year-old woman who could face charges of being an accessory after the fact. Late Friday detectives were still talking to her. It's suspected that the woman, whose name wasn't released, may have been helping Smith hide from the police and the massive city-wide manhunt for him.

"We always believed he was not more than a few steps in front of us," said Borg.

Borg went on to say that the killing and wounding incident was "not a random shooting," but he declined to elaborate.

On March 30, police had arrested Wendell Damian Cuff, who was also charged with one count of first degree murder and five counts of attempted murder.

Around 10 p.m. on March 14, Abdikarim and a group of his friends were at an apartment building on Amaranth Court, near the Yorkdale Mall, when two men walked briskly towards them.

One of the men had a gun and a videotape showed him firing six shots at Abdikarim and his friends, moving his arm like he was targeting each of them before he and the other man ran off.
