Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia’s armed forces, working in coordination with international partners, killed 29 al-Shabaab militants during an operation in the town of Jabad Godane in southeastern Somalia, the Ministry of Defence said on Thursday.
In a statement posted on X, the ministry said the operation included overnight airstrikes in the Middle Shabelle region, which also destroyed vehicles and weapons that were intended for use in attacks against civilians.
The ministry commended the Somali National Army and its allies for the operation and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing military campaigns until al-Shabaab is fully defeated.
Al-Shabaab has waged an insurgency in Somalia since 2007, seeking to overthrow the internationally recognised government and impose its own rule.
The group continues to carry out attacks targeting civilians, government institutions, and security forces despite sustained military pressure from Somali forces and their partners.
