Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, met with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Badr Abdel Atty, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, on Saturday in Cairo, on the sidelines of the Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Somalia and Egypt and expanding cooperation in key areas including economic development, investment, security, and regional stability. Both ministers emphasized the importance of practical partnerships that contribute to long-term stability and sustainable development.
On his part, Minister Dr. Abdel Atty stressed the positive path of Egyptian-Somali relations, reaffirming Egypt's commitment to deepening strategic cooperation, and pointed out that relocating the headquarters of the Egyptian Embassy to Mogadishu is expected to contribute to strengthening diplomatic communication and facilitating coordination between the two countries.
The meeting also addressed regional security developments, where Egypt renewed its support for the stability of Somalia and the African Century Region, stressing the need for continuation of international funding of the African Union mission to support and stabilize Somalia (OSSOM) to ensure its effectiveness.
Ministers stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation to combat terrorism and violent extremism, calling for intensified regional and international coordination to counter threats affecting peace and security in the region.
