It is obvious the Sharif and Sharmarke government is not going to succeed as long as the current Banadir and Mogadishu administrators are running the region. I am specifically talking about men like Abdi Fatah Shaaweey, Mohamed Isman Ali Dhagaxtuur and Abdi Awale Qaybdiid and their support staff. These men are all under suspicion and a cloud of corruption, tribalism and mismanagement. A cloud of uncertainty is hovering under a region which is very critical for the whole nation. It is inconceivable that men of such incompetence are allowed to have free reign in running the most populous region and city of Somalia.

These men have show no competence, foresight and guts to run Mogadishu and Banadir region in this critical juncture. In every turn, we see their mishaps, gross incompetence and, their daily squabbles are becoming the talk of the Coffee shops. I am dumbfounded why the Prime Minister, the Parliament and the President are all silent on this critical issue. I support this government and I have said so in many articles but I am not going to be silent about the unprecedented mismanagement and mistrust that is plaguing the Banaadir and Mogadishu administration.

I ask why the former Prime Minister Nur Adde who has shown to be an able administrator, a trusty worthy administrator was sent to an Embassy in Italy when he could have done better job here in Mogadishu?. Why is the current government letting these incompetent individuals run this critical city? I don’t know if the parliament, the prime minister and the president are aware or not but Somalis in the Diaspora and here at home are disillusioning with the performance of these men. It is about time to replace these men with credible, respected leaders who can do the job of governing the Bandir region.

There is no excuse to have these individuals run the affairs of Mogadishu and Banadir anymore. They have become a disgrace for the whole region and they are derailing the goodwill that the Somali people had for the current transitional government.

How can a city run by these men reach a peaceful settlement with opposition? Bring back refugees, address the looming pandemic Swine flue and deal with unexpected disasters? How can the business community trust and give the taxes needed to run the city and the country?

It is about time to bring educated, trusted and able administrators to fill these roles. Bring people who are known to be upright and hard workers and not tainted by tribalism and corruption. People who would put their country first and not their petty interests.
