Fasting is known to provide people with many physical and psychological benefits. Doctor Veli Karabuga spoke about the subject to Zaman, and said that fasting may prevent the development of obesity since it helps people consume smaller amounts of food. “Which obesity clinic can train people to be patient along with the sheer willpower to reduce eating for a month?” he asked.
Karabuga said that fasting helps people both to eat less, preventing the development of obesity, and urges overweight people to be patient. The doctor explained that fasting is an effective way of training patience in people. This patience includes refraining from eating and drinking during daylight hours.
Doctor Karabuga indicated that teaching and training are different notions, explaining that one is active in a training process. Fasting is entirely a training process for both the individual and society as a whole.
“One of the most important rules of medicine is as follows: Your patient should be able to follow your instructions. We call this patient harmony. This is one of the most challenging issues that the doctors face in obesity cases. Fasting is one of the pillars of Islam, so it is a rule that all the Muslims should comply with. Every Muslim gets 100 percent patience training against eating for a month,” said Dr. Karabuga.
The prophet never said “no” to anyone
The prophet Muhammad was one of the most generous of all human beings, and the month of Ramadan in particular made him more generous.
He never said “no” to anyone who asked something from him. Once, he said he was just a distributor; the actual owner of the things was God.
