Hargeisa (HOL) — Somaliland police said they have released
employees of Consilient Limited Company who were arrested Monday after
authorities received false information alleging the firm was organizing a
debate on the Somali constitution and elections.
In a statement issued Wednesday, police said their
investigation found no evidence linking Consilient Limited to any activity
related to organizing a constitutional or electoral debate, confirming that the
initial information provided to law enforcement was false.
“The Somaliland Police conducted an operation on Monday,
October 20, 2025, and arrested the management and employees of Consilient
Limited Company after receiving reports that the organization was conducting activities
that violated the sovereignty of the Republic of Somaliland,” the statement
said.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the
Somaliland Police Force carried out an in-depth investigation and confirmed
that the information was fabricated and that no such program had been organized
by the company.
“The Somaliland Police Force clarifies to the public that
the information was false and is conducting an extensive investigation to
identify those responsible for spreading it, so that they can be brought to
justice,” the statement added.
The rumor, which spread widely on social media in recent
days, claimed that Consilient Limited was hosting discussions on Somalia’s
constitutional process. Users circulated documents they said supported the
claim, though authorities have since dismissed them as false.
Despite the police clarification, some social media users
have continued to question the official account, saying they believe the
reports about the alleged debate were genuine.
