Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali Police Commander Brigadier General
Asad Osman Abdullahi held a meeting on Thursday in Mogadishu with European
Union Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, to discuss key security
matters and reinforce bilateral cooperation.
The meeting focused on strengthening Somalia’s security
institutions, with a particular focus on accelerating reforms to prepare the
Darawiish forces for deployment in areas recently liberated from extremist
control. The forces are expected to play a central role in stabilizing and
securing these regions.
Ambassador Di Mauro, who assumed her post in September 2025,
commended the federal government efforts on security in the capital and the anti-al-Shabaab
operations. Her engagement with the Somali Police leadership underscores the
EU’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s state-building and security sector
reform.
The European Union has long been a key partner in Somalia’s
stabilization efforts, providing financial and technical support to the Somali
Police Force and other security agencies. Thursday’s meeting reaffirmed both
sides’ commitment to aligning ongoing collaborative efforts with the
government’s strategic objectives to restore security and extend state
authority nationwide.
