Mogadishu (HOL) – The Somalia Humanitarian Forum 2025 (CHF
2025) officially opened on Tuesday in Baidoa, bringing together national and
international stakeholders to tackle the country’s most pressing humanitarian
challenges through a unified, inclusive, and coordinated approach.
Hosted by the Somali Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA),
the summit serves as a crucial platform to reassess, align, and reinforce
humanitarian interventions across Somalia.
The central theme of the forum is to enhance the effectiveness
and coherence of humanitarian responses, particularly in light of ongoing
climate-induced shocks, widespread displacement, food insecurity, and limited
access to essential services.
Participants are engaging in high-level discussions on
priority areas, including:
- Strengthening coordination mechanisms between federal and
state authorities and humanitarian partners,
-
Improving the management and flow of humanitarian financing,
-
Promoting local leadership in disaster response,
-
Enhancing resilience in drought- and flood-affected
communities, and
-
Fostering transparent, inclusive decision-making across
sectors.
In his opening remarks, the SoDMA Commissioner reaffirmed
Somalia’s commitment to leading its own humanitarian agenda and called for
greater alignment between international assistance and nationally driven
strategies.
The forum also offers an opportunity to review current
humanitarian response plans, assess gaps in delivery and accountability, and
strengthen partnership frameworks.
CHF 2025 is expected to conclude with concrete
recommendations, joint action plans, and renewed commitments that will shape
Somalia’s humanitarian roadmap in the years to come.
The selection of Baidoa as the host city highlights the
region’s critical role in humanitarian operations and the South West State’s
experience in managing complex emergencies and hosting large numbers of
displaced people.
