Addis Ababa (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a bilateral meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali on Wednesday in Guba, where the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen relations between their countries.

Talks focused on advancing regional stability and enhancing cooperation in key areas of mutual interest. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a “forward-looking partnership” aimed at promoting peace, security, and prosperity across the Horn of Africa.

President Mohamud also attended a separate high-level meeting in Guba on securing sustainable funding for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), which has replaced ATMIS.

The meeting was attended by Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh, Kenyan President William Ruto, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission.

The renewed engagements between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa come at a delicate time, following strains in regional relations earlier last year after Ethiopia signed a controversial memorandum of understanding with Somaliland, the breakaway region of Somalia.
