Somali PM meets new EU Ambassador as Mogadishu, Brussels pledge closer ties

Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Monday met with the newly appointed European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, to discuss strengthening bilateral ties in peace, development, and state-building.

Prime Minister Barre congratulated Di Mauro on her appointment and emphasized the importance of deepening Somalia–EU cooperation.

For her part, Ambassador Di Mauro thanked the Somali government and people for the warm reception, reaffirming her commitment to advance cooperation across key areas of mutual interest.

On Wednesday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud formally received Di Mauro’s credentials at a ceremony at Villa Somalia.

The EU has long been one of Somalia’s largest partners, providing support in security, humanitarian aid, governance, education, and development.
