Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia’s National Communications
Authority (NCA) and the Ministry of Communications and Technology (MoCT), in
collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), on Sunday
launched a two-day National Multi-Stakeholder Consultation Workshop to validate
the country’s Digital Transformation Strategy (2025–2030).
The workshop brings together representatives from key
government institutions, regulatory agencies, and licensed telecom operators to
review and refine Somalia’s digital roadmap aimed at fostering inclusive growth
and innovation.
Speaking at the opening session, Mustafa Almahdi, Program
Officer at the ITU Arab Regional Office, reaffirmed the ITU’s support for
Somalia’s digital vision and emphasized the importance of collaboration in
advancing national development through technology.
NCA Director General Mustafa Yasin Sheikh said the strategy
represents a major milestone in Somalia’s digital journey, reflecting the
nation’s commitment to building a resilient and inclusive digital ecosystem.
“It highlights the power of strong partnerships between
government, the private sector, and development partners in driving this change
and ensuring sustainability,” he added.
Minister of Communications and Technology Mohamed Adan
Moallim Ali noted that the Digital Transformation Strategy will serve as a
national framework guiding all ICT-related initiatives across sectors.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to policy
coordination, investment in digital infrastructure, and capacity development to
accelerate service delivery and economic growth.
During the two-day workshop, participants will discuss
Somalia’s digital vision, strategic pillars, and implementation roadmap —
focusing on governance structures, funding mechanisms, and regional alignment
with African Union and East African Community frameworks.
