Mogadishu (HOL) — Armed men killed a mother and her three daughters late Wednesday night in Hindheere, a village in Somalia’s central Galgaduud region, in what authorities and residents described as a targeted clan revenge attack.
Local officials said the victims were asleep when the assailants broke into their home and opened fire, shooting them multiple times at close range. All four women died instantly, witnesses said.
No arrests have been made, and regional officials in Galgaduud have not commented publicly. Security forces have been deployed to the area to pursue the attackers, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
Residents said the killings were linked to an ongoing clan dispute that has periodically erupted into violence in Hindheere. No men were present in the house at the time, which allowed the gunmen to carry out the assault without resistance.
“The attack has devastated this community,” said a local teacher who requested anonymity for safety reasons. “We need protection and justice before more lives are lost.”
Community elders have urged both federal and regional authorities to act swiftly to prevent retaliation and restore calm. The victims’ bodies had not been buried by Thursday morning as relatives awaited clearance from officials.
Galgaduud, part of Somalia’s conflict-prone central belt, has experienced recurring violence driven by clan rivalries and resource disputes. The regional and federal governments have struggled to enforce reconciliation agreements that could end the cycle of revenge killings that continue to destabilize rural communities.
