Mogadishu (HOL) — Operations at Aden Adde International
Airport were disrupted Tuesday after workers went on strike to protest the
recent dismissal of several employees by Favori LLC, the Turkish company
managing Somalia’s main airport.
According to reports from inside the facility, at least 15
employees were laid off, sparking outrage among their colleagues. During the
protest, striking workers displayed the names and identification cards of those
dismissed, demanding their immediate reinstatement.
Dressed in their airport uniforms, the workers marched and
chanted inside the terminal area, accusing the management of unfair labor
practices.
“The decision to dismiss our colleagues was illegal and has
affected the daily operations of the airport,” one worker told reporters.
The protesters called on the Federal Government of Somalia
to step in and mediate the dispute, urging authorities to ensure that due
process and workers’ rights are respected.
Neither Favori nor Aden Adde Airport’s management has issued
an official statement regarding the layoffs or the strike.
The situation remained tense as of Tuesday afternoon, with
striking workers refusing to return to their posts until their grievances are
addressed. The protest has raised concerns about potential disruptions to
flight operations at one of the busiest airports in the Horn of Africa.
