Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Somali counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Affairs, Abdul Salam Abdi Ali, stressed on Wednesday the need to benefit the Baghdad Summit to launch joint initiatives that contribute to addressing the political and economic challenges facing the region. They also confirmed Iraq and Somalia's support for dialogue as a primary option for resolving crises.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that "Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, received the Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Affairs, Abdul Salam Abdi Ali, on the sidelines of the ongoing preparations for the Arab Summit in Baghdad."
"The Minister welcomed his Somali counterpart in Baghdad, emphasizing the depth of the fraternal relations between Iraq and Somalia, and the Iraqi government's keenness to develop prospects for cooperation with brotherly countries, reflecting Iraq's commitment to supporting Arab solidarity and strengthening political and diplomatic communication with member states of the League of Arab States."
"During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the political, security, and economic fields, and to activate joint mechanisms to support mutual interests. The two sides also discussed the importance of convening the Iraqi-Somali Joint Committee as soon as possible, given its effective role in developing relations at various levels."
According to the statement "The two ministers reviewed the importance of holding the Arab Summit in Baghdad, as an opportunity to strengthen joint Arab action and emphasize Iraq's pivotal role in supporting Arab issues. They stressed the need to invest this summit in launching joint initiatives that contribute to addressing the political and economic challenges facing the region."
"The discussions addressed the latest developments in the region, particularly in Syria and Lebanon. The two sides emphasized the importance of intensifying Arab coordination in dealing with regional crises and the need to reach sustainable political solutions that preserve the stability of these countries and support their security and territorial integrity. They affirmed Iraq and Somalia's support for dialogue as the primary option for resolving crises."The statement concluded, "Minister Abdul Salam Abdi extended an official invitation to Fuad Hussein to visit Somalia, stressing that this visit will contribute to strengthening bilateral relations and promote them to broader levels of cooperation and coordination."
