Mogadishu (HOL) – Somali police have arrested several suspects involved in theft, murder, and other criminal acts during a series of operations in Mogadishu's Hodan and Hamar Jajab districts, the Somali Police Force confirmed on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference, Somali Police Spokesperson Abdifitah Aden said three suspects were arrested after they fought over dividing stolen property, including mobile phones, alerting authorities to their activities. The group, according to the police, had previously been convicted but released on parole — only to return to committing crimes.
"These individuals have resumed acts of insecurity such as looting and killings, victimizing the Somali people," Spokesperson Abdifitah said.
He also revealed that security forces arrested five suspects linked to the brutal murder of Colonel Abdulkadir Hussein Cigaal, whose body was burned in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.
In a separate case, police apprehended the individual responsible for the murder of Feisal Abdullahi Takar, along with two accomplices who aided in the crime.
Spokesperson Abdifitah strongly condemned the recurring trend of releasing criminals through community or clan-based agreements, calling on the public to support the rule of law.
"Anyone who commits murder in Mogadishu must face the country's justice system — not be freed through informal clan negotiations," he said.
The police have pledged to intensify their operations to ensure the safety of residents and bring criminals to justice without compromise.
