Mogadishu (HOL) – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre held a meeting with Mr. Adebayo Kareem, the newly appointed Acting Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, to discuss enhanced security cooperation and national stabilization efforts.
The meeting, which took place at the Prime Minister's office in Mogadishu, underscored the shared commitment between the Federal Government of Somalia and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS, formerly AMISOM, now AUSSOM) to promote peace, counter terrorism, and reinforce long-term stability throughout the country.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of closer collaboration between AUSSOM and Somali security institutions as the country ramps up its military operations against Al-Shabaab insurgents.
The talks come at a critical time as AUSSOM continues to face significant funding challenges, potentially affecting the mission's capacity to maintain progress on the ground.
Prime Minister Barre praised the African Union's ongoing role in Somalia's security transition and reaffirmed his government's commitment to achieving a peaceful and self-reliant Somalia.
