Somali Prime Minister inaugurates nation's largest emergency and trauma center

Tuesday October 29, 2024

Mogadishu (HOL) —Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre inaugurated the country's largest Emergency and Trauma Center at Mogadishu's Madiina Hospital on Tuesday to improve healthcare for the nation.

The state-of-the-art facility, which simultaneously treats up to 200 patients, includes specialized units for patient care, emergency treatment, and delivery.

The new center is expected to play a crucial role in providing emergency care, especially for Somali soldiers and civilians affected by ongoing conflicts with militant groups.

The center was funded by donations from the Somali people in the aftermath of the devastating Zoobe Two bombing in October 2022, which claimed over 100 lives.

The National Emergency Committee led the initiative in collaboration with federal ministries, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), and local civil society organizations.

Prime Minister Barre expressed the government's commitment to expanding Somalia's healthcare infrastructure, highlighting additional recent projects, including a revamped blood storage center, an emergency response unit, and multiple health centers.

Barre reiterated his administration's dedication to completing construction and fully equipping the nation's largest hospital to ensure comprehensive healthcare services for the Somali people.
