    Somaliland now has its first all-girls basketball team. The conservative norms in the country have stopped several women from participating in sports. However, the team of almost 30 young girls has defied the odds, as they wish to play and represent their homeland. More than just playing, they now shoot for Somaliland's recognition as a state. Somaliland is a breakaway territory that claimed independence from Somalia in 1991. The team which started with just a few girls, now has a large online following. It is also inspiring female payers in other sports. Their success has led to the formation of other female teams in Somaliland.
