Mogadishu (HOL) - The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned Wednesday's explosions in Mogadishu's Bakara market, which killed ten people and wounded 20 others.
The OIC Secretary-General, Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, expressed strong condemnation of this heinous terrorist act. He offered his condolences to the families of the victims and the government and people of Somalia, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
The Secretary-General reiterated the OIC's condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, as well as its support for the efforts of the Somali government to combat terrorism and enhance security and stability in the country.
While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, al-Shabab militants typically carry out mortar attacks targeting Somali government centers and Mogadishu airport.
However, the deputy mayor of Mogadishu for security and politics, Mohamed Ahmed Diriye Yabooh, stated that the incident in Bakara was caused by explosions orchestrated by the al-Shabab group.
